What it checks

No. Verification is a conversation with the recipient's mail server that stops before a message exists. Nobody sees anything.
For domains that answer honestly (most of them) the mailbox check is definitive. For catch-all domains no external tool can confirm a mailbox, and we label those instead of pretending. See the full FAQ for the straight talk on accuracy.
